2010 FIFA WORLD CUP™ SOCCER SOUTH AFRICA
T.E.A.M CELEBRATES WORLD CUP SUCCESS AND LOOKS TOWARDS THE FUTURE
Tourvest Event Activation Management (T.E.A.M), the sports event business management unit of Tourvest Inbound Operations (TIO), is celebrating alongside the nation following the hugely successful conclusion of 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The event, which has been lauded as a triumph not only by FIFA, but by the hundreds of thousands of fans that travelled to South Africa, was an opportunity for T.E.A.M to illustrate its potential to cope under enormous pressure and produce impeccable results.
Just a few of T.E.A.M's achievements during the 2010 FIFA World Cup include:
The next big event for T.E.A.M will be the Danone Nations Cup, the world's top football tournament for children between the ages of 10 and 12, to be held in South Africa in October this year. Martin Wiest, TIO's CEO, explains, "As a result from our involvement in the FIFA World Cup, we were approached to handle the Danone Nations Cup, which includes teams from 42 countries, with a total of 2 500 people travelling to participate in the event."
Discussing future opportunities, T.E.A.M MD, Philip Bourdin says: "We are lucky, in that South Africa is blessed with excellent sporting opportunities, from the Tri-nations, to the Super 12 and regularly visiting cricket sides - there's plenty of bread and butter business to fill in the gaps." He adds that T.E.A.M will look at sports at school and varsity level, as international teams may come out to play in tournaments against local sides.
The massive expertise garnered over the past five years has also encouraged T.E.A.M to confidently look towards future sporting events, including 2012 Olympics Games to be held in London, 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Brazil. T.E.A.M is now in the process of opening offices in Rio de Janeiro as well as London in conjunction with two leading tour operators in their respective cities.
